Outdoor Babies: Yangon Photographer

Oh gosh, it's been quite chaotic in our house for the past week.
If you were following on the facebook page, you know we have two new puppies from the Yangon Animal Shelter that we decided to foster.

My kids are getting adjusted to walking the pups, being responsible for picking up what the pups leave behind.  The pups are keeping my kids outside which I absolutely love!

The weather has been beautiful here in Yangon.  It hasn't rained much for the past week.  Absolutely perfect for our pups and my kids to run outside and enjoy.

Here are a few shots I've taken when I joined them for a late afternoon stroll outside.

Pink: Yangon Myanmar Photographer

My daughter loves to alert me of beautiful sunsets that she can see outside her window for photo opportunities!
Here's one of those days.  The colors of the sunset was just absolutely amazing.
Of course, it is intensified a bit here but we both appreciated it together so much~
I think she loves to see me rush out with my camera, obviously, taking her notice seriously.

This is my pink challenge photo for I heart Faces~  The Pink theme is to honor the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   Please go check out other awesome submissions as well~

Seoul, Korea - Layover

When we left our home country past July, we were on a 48 hour journey to Yangon.  A lot of transfers and lay overs.  We had three kids who were tired from all the airports walking in dim lights and lacking sleep. The best part of the whole trip though was our lay over in Seoul, Korea.  We had a quite pleasant experience during our over night lay over in Seoul, Korea.

Korea offers free transit tour to those who are just stopping by before heading to final destination.  There are several different options.  The one we went on was a six hour tour that left early in the morning and came back after lunch.  Six hours includes transportation and lunch.  It only cost us 10,000 won which is somewhat equivalent to $10.  This covered the lunch and the entry fee to the Palace.

The tour bus, plush and comfortable with full AC and buckles.  They call this the "limousine" bus.  The guide spoke English and was very friendly.  She gave us plenty of information as she took us around each stop.  We visited three in total.  She purchased the entry for the palace visit on our behalf and was quite efficient in getting us everywhere we needed to.

We visited three different sites.  First was the Cheong Gye Chon, which is a newly renovated and opened creek in the middle of the city.  Then we visited the Geong Bok Gung Palace.  We made it in time for the Royal procession.  Last we stopped at In Sa Dong for some lunch.  We ran out of time to walk around a bit but it's a real nice place with a lot of cultural products like dolls dressed in korean outfits and Korean art.

All this took only six hours!  I really enjoyed having a FREE guide and FREE transportation.  haha

Please check it out here for details.   This is the tour we did, I think. I know there are prices for not Transit-ers but that's not the amount you pay if you are in-transit.  Definitely worth looking into!

Right Track Bowling: In and Around Myanmar: Yangon Photographer

Last weekend, we took our kids and their friends to Bowling.
When we arrived, there was a huge group of people so we had to wait about an hour.
Eventually we got to play and the kids absolutely loved bowling (for the first 5 frames) then asked to go home.

The facility might not be as "beautiful" what we are used to but they have everything you need.
Scores are shown up on top as well as where you are sitting.
No need to pencil and paper to calculate your scores (I remember doing this about 25 years ago.. =)
My kids had their rubber bottomed crocs on and that was fine for them to use.
They didn't ask us to rent for the kids since they didn't have the sizes for the rental shoes.
The price is VERY reasonable!  1500kyat per game.

For the location, you can check out this link.  The map is quite accurate.

For a short weekend sporting activity (which would be a great alternative to screen games) this was great!

Pomelo, Yangon: in and around Myanmar

I wrote about Helping Hands last month (see the post

here

) and I mentioned that I would love to stop by the shop that houses non-profit entities for retail venue.

Well, I did just that!  I got to visit Pomelo~  =)

Wow, so many creative minds are behind this project.  You can read more about it on the Pomelo

website

but I was quite impressed how these ladies, who are mostly expats, are so dedicated to help the people in Myanmar.  All the expats working there are volunteers.  They do not get paid a cent!  not one Kyats (equivalent to .001 dollar)

All the money goes back to materials and mostly the locals for their housing, medical and other needs.

I 100% recommend this place.  Very creative and beautiful things there.  The photos were from last week, but I visited again this week and saw some cool new things, such as a cover for a balloon!  I also got somethings for my daughter which I hope to use in a photo shoot tomorrow...   =)  please no rain...

Here are some snippets of the shop~

Rest... in the shade: Yangon Photographer

Oh... it's hot here in Yangon.
It's a monsoon season and yes it does rain A LOT!
I just got poured on this afternoon on the way to get a taxi.

But when it's not raining, it's SUNNY.  Super sunny.
Our transportation currently has been taxis only so far.
We still have to walk a bit to get to the main street meaning, we will be walking in the sun.

There's a nice tree on the way... If we have time, we like to stay there even for a second...

Here's an entry to I Heart Faces photo challenge.  Check out here for other awesome submissions~

Laughter: Rock the Shot!

This is my aunt and uncle.
This is our stop on our way up to the Drangon's Back in Hong Kong.
They were visiting from out of country.

They felt shy to have everyone's attention while they sat and everyone started taking out their cameras to photograph the couple. Just a candid moment relaxing with family and enjoying our time together.

Moments like this is what I like to remember.

Laughter is the subject of the entry from www.rocktheshotforum.com

Ok I just took this photo last week and LOVED it..
decided to use this  instead!  =)
Another great laughter shot for Rock the Shot

Helping Hands, Yangon: in and around Myanmar

Today I got to visit the awesomest place in Yangon (so far... I've only been here for a month =)  But in any case, it is pretty cool.

Helping Hands is a non-profit establishment where young adults, women and men come to work with fair wages and medical care so locals can have opportunity of life and education.

There are men and boys working outside with beautiful wooden furniture with beautiful craftsmanship.  Inside the building there were ladies sewing, quilting and embroidering cute fun very practical things for sale such as clothing, bags, accessories for all ages.  Fabric choices and designs are worth so much!!!

All the sales proceeds goes back to the shop for materials and back to the locals who work here.  Helping hands is moving this weekend and will have a showroom downtown.  Location to be updated as soon as I find out because I will be visiting them again!

Currently their items are being sold at Pomelo, which is a shop that hosts all non-profit vendors such as Helping Hands.  I haven't been there but I'm told people can't bring too much money because they end up spending it all!  =)

Please give some love and support fair trade by purchasing these items.  They make wonderful gifts and souvenirs.
